Description:
Our client - a major oil and gas engineering services company - has a vacancy for a QS/Cost Engineer to be based in Newcastle. Specific Responsibilities include: Preparation of cost, estimates for the project and recast into project control budget Review and analysis of contractors’ estimate quality and accuracy Assist contract administration activities related major engineering and construction contracts Provide project management with assessments of contractors’ estimates / change orders and provide recommendations Assist in management of the project management change process Benchmark contractor estimates against company historical cost database Preparation of independent estimates to validate contractor estimates Assist in evaluation of contractor proposals and invoices Experience (required): Previous experience on capital projects in estimating and cost control Exposure to engineering project environments from many industries and sizes Abilities (required): Strong capability in software including MS Project, MS Excel, Access and MS Word Interpretation of contracts Advanced knowledge of estimating, cost control and cost engineering principles Strong written and verbal communication skills Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills Demonstrated ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, or in a team environment Superior communication (written and verbal), and presentation skills sufficient to convey both factual and conceptual information requiring detailed explanation and interpretation to staff, professionals and other business representatives Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify key issues based on relevant data and provide appropriate solutions/recommendations in a proactive manner Ability to build relationships and interact effectively with a variety of people/disciplines both internal and external Excellent organizational and planning skills to set and exceed established goals, schedules, and deadlines

Qualifications (preferred):
University degree in engineering or equivalent Institute of Quantity / Surveyors or Cost Engineers
