Project Chemist/Costing Engineer Job Description (Summary) Primary Function: Working in the projects procurement and sales team, support the processing of and responses to price enquiries, routine quotes (laboratory consumables, equipment, repairs), full tendering exercises providing technical input, current pricing input and oversee the (sub-supplier) ordering process (for successful bids) and the coordination of receipts into warehouse to meet agreed delivery deadlines. Undertaking the consolidation of goods in warehouse and preparing, packaging, labelling and documenting the consolidated goods packages for offshore shipment or overseas export (in compliance with current IATA/IMDG/IMO regulations). Responsible to: Projects and Contract Services Manager, nominee or deputy. Staff Supervised: Responsible for delegation of project support work to Project Technician and administrative work to Projects Administrator. Primary Duties and responsibilities: The primary duties and responsibilities below are not exhaustive and additional duties may required to be undertaken as directed by management to meet the operational demands of the business. The Project Chemist will work on our oilfield laboratory (projects) sales packages which range from the design and procurement of full packages (laboratory modules, internal furniture and fittings, analytical and sampling equipment, first stocks of consumables, chemicals and reagents) to single items of laboratory equipment (for sale, repair or rent) or items of consumable labware, solvents, reagents and chemicals. The position is onshore based, but from time to time will require offshore and onshore site visits, in the UK and overseas (for the commissioning of equipment and testing programmes and training of laboratory operators at points of handover and operations start-up). The onshore work will primarily involve the development of project proposals (as described above) covering laboratory system design, testing programme design, equipment selection and pricing, laboratory consumables, materials and chemicals sourcing and pricing. Summary of key technical and operational experience and skills required: Technical/analytical experience and understanding (oil, gas, petrochemicals sectors) Analytical equipment and instrumentation knowledge (ideally oilfield process control) Method and testing regime development (for process control) Laboratory equipment trialing and commissioning experience Offshore and/or oil/gas-related process plant experience Laboratory operator training experience HSEQ compliance awareness Technical/administrative staff supervisory experience Laboratory equipment/consumables supplier liaison/price negotiation/expenditure budgeting and control exposure IT systems literacy Good interpersonal skills (for customer, supplier and staff relationships) Commercial awareness (balance competitive pricing with profit returns) Good literacy and numeracy skills (proposal and pricing document preparation).
